Ford today announced prices for the upcoming 2009 Focus RS, with the base model to be sold for 24,995 pounds when it arrives in UK dealerships in March 2009. As you probably know, the RS badge actually represents the high performance variant of the whole Focus series, Ford sustaining the new model will become the company's fastest-ever European production car.

“The new Focus RS is the first Ford to wear the famous Rallye Sport badge since the first-generation Focus RS was launched seven years ago, and the 22nd since 1970. RS denotes a distinctive blend of high performance, road-holding, refinement, safety and value for money, and reflects a proud tradition of successful motor sports involvement that continues to the present day,” the American company said about the new model.

In terms of technical specifications, the forthcoming Focus RS is quite impressive, starting with the engine and ending with the Recaro sports seats providing impressive comfort for a high-performance vehicle.

First of all, there's the turbocharged 2.5-liter, five-cylinder Duratec petrol engine which develops 305 PS and 440 Nm torque. This unit is connected to a six-speed transmission which helps the car develop a top speed of 160 mph (257.5 km/h) combined with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration done in less than six seconds.

The braking system has also been upgraded, with ventilated discs on front and regular discs on rear, plus ABS, EBD and EBA. The 19-inch alloy wheels and the 235/35 tires provide enhanced stability and handling, Ford said in a statement released to the press.

Beside all of these, all models come with manual air-conditioning systems as standard, combined with a bunch of car entertainment features such as six-disc CD player with DAB and Sony radio.

Optional features include Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control air conditioning, automatic headlights, auto-dim rear-view mirror, rear parking sensors, Ford's Key-Free system as well as touchscreen DVD navigation system with seven-inch display.
