The American company aims to emphasize its green plans at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March. Ford will showcase a new range of ECOnetic models, including Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo, all of them particularly focused on fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

"Ford is also sourcing renewable electricity to cover the full electric power demand of its Fiesta manufacturing and engineering facilities in Cologne, Germany. Through this initiative, the company will reduce its CO2 emissions by 190,000 tonnes per year," Ford said in a statement for the press.

The top-of-the-range model is Ford Fiesta ECOnetic equipped with a 1.6-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel unit that produces a maximum power of 90 hp. CO2 emissions are rated at 98 grams per kilometers, while fuel economy goes as much as 76.3 mpg (about 64 mpg in the United States).

In addition, the automaker will display the Focus ECOnetic version, an upgraded model that now achieves a fuel consumption rating of 4.3 liters per 100 km (65.6 mpg) while producing emissions of around 115 g/km. The third model to be showcased at the show is the Mondeo ECOnetic, which consumes around 5.2 liters per 100 km (53.3 mpg) and produces 139 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

“The new Fiesta is the strongest example yet of Ford of Europe’s commitment to, and investment in, sustainable mobility. Fiesta ECOnetic is a compelling, stylish yet no-compromise choice for customers, offering class-leading low CO2 and genuine savings, while also benefitting from our investment in efficient production facilities," Dr Wolfgang Schneider, Ford of Europe Vice President for Legal, Governmental and Environmental Affairs said.
