Ford today unveiled a new UK-developed 1.0-liter turbocharged, direct injection EcoBoost engine, wit the downsized unit being presented by Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally in Cologne.
The three-cylinder unit will be offered in two version: a 100 hp one, that will emit 109 grams of CO2 per km and a 125 hp and 170 Nm (200 Nm during overboost), which will emit 114 g of CO2/km and allow the new Focus to return a fuel economy of 56.5 UK mpg (5l/100 km or 47 US mpg).
The engine will be launched in the aforementioned model, as well as on the Ford C-MAX, Grand C-MAX and B-MAX. It will make its debut in Europe early next year and will then be offered worldwide.
The mill will be produced in the UK, at Dunton and Dagenham, as well as in Romania, at Ford’s Craiova plant, with the overall production capacity being able to reach 700,000 units per year. However, the worldwide production capacity could hit 1.5 million units.
