Ford 1 Liter EcoBoost Travels to LA in a Suitcase

When it comes to downsizing engines, Ford, Renault and Fiat are currently ahead of the pack, by quite a margin. Ford’s one liter EcoBoost engine is a very small unit indeed, so much so, that it can fit inside an average-sized suitcase.

Los Angeles airport authorities have undoubtedly screened a lot of strange objects over the years, yet this is probably the first time their x-ray machine showed them a car engine. However, it wasn`t a problem, and the engine passed through airport security without a hitch, on its way to the LA Auto Show, from Detroit. Ford is bringing the engine to LA in order to show it off to future US buyers, as they will soon be getting the engine under the bonnet of the Fiesta, as it is due for an update for the 2014 model-year.

It will undoubtedly be a very sought-after unit, once it makes its US debut, as it currently represents the pinnacle of the realm of downsized engines, at least in terms of overall power, with its maximum output of 125 hp, which can be safely raised to 145 hp using a simple ECU remap.
