Force India Vow to Keep Sutil in 2010

Now that they have upped their game consistently in the Formula One championship – one podium, plus pole position in the Belgian Grand Prix – Force India are vowing to retain the German driver in their lineup for the upcoming season.

A few months ago, Sutil admitted he would like to drive a race winning or at least point scoring car in 2010. He even considered leaving the Silverstone based outfit if the opportunity arises, under the condition that he'll become a regular point-finisher in the series.

With Giancarlo Fisichella leaving Force India for a Ferrari drive in the remaining rounds of 2009, Sutil is now the leading driver for Vijay Mallya's team, ahead of new teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi. His first race under that status brought him a front row position on the Italian GP grid and 4th place at the finish line.

We are very, very content. We have known for a long time that he is a fantastic driver and now we are finally giving him a good car. He trains so hard and works very well with the engineers. He pushes himself and is always motivated and in the past years matured very well. It would be good for him and for the team if he stays,” told Force India official Simon Roberts the Auto Bild Motorsport.

Sutil was heavily linked with a move to McLaren 2 years ago, following Fernando Alonso's departure from the Woking based team. The German driver is known to be one of Lewis Hamilton's few friends in the paddock, which would have made him the perfect replacement for the 2-time world champion.

However, that move was never materialized, and Sutil was left signing for Force India for another couple of years. As of two weekends ago, the German finally made the list of F1 drivers to score points in the series throughout their careers.
