Force India to Battle BMW Sauber for Constructors' Position

Force India have finally set their objective for the 2009 season. Now that they've scored their first points in the series thanks to Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil, the Silverstone based team will now attempt to pass BMW Sauber in the Constructors' classification in the upcoming two races.

There are currently 11 points separating the two outfits in the standings, which means Force India will target the point-scoring positions in both Brazil and Abu Dhabi with both drivers. Until now, only Sutil put some points up on the scoreboard for his team, as Vitantonio Liuzzi is yet to record a Top 8 finish this season (however, he only started racing for the team in Italy).

We will be giving it everything we have. Brazil should suit us, our car has performed well on tracks with a similar configuration, and now we've got the taste for points we want to get some more,” said Force India's owner Vijay Mallya prior to the Interlagos race this weekend.

BMW are 11 points ahead of us in the Constructors' Championship so if Tonio and Adrian push hard we could at least close that gap. It's going to be difficult but we have everything to gain and nothing to lose by making this our aim.

Based on this form I am however very optimistic we can make up ground in Brazil. Adrian and Tonio both know the track and the car is at its peak so I'm confident we should again be Q2 or higher and again racing for the points” added the Indian billionaire.

The last time Force India scored points this season was during the Italian GP, when Sutil qualified on the front row and finished in 4th place, just outside his first ever podium in the series. Also, two weekends ago, during the Japanese GP, both Sutil and Liuzzi had a decent pace in the first part of the race, only to slip lower down the field in the closing stages.
