Force India Confirm Vacant Seat for 2011

Force India have confirmed what was already pretty obvious for the everyday fan of Formula One, which is that they have a vacant spot for the 2011 season. This means that either Adrian Sutil or Vitantonio Liuzzi will not drive for Vijay Mallya's team next year, considering the fact that Paul di Resta will most definitely make his F1 debut with Force India in 2011.

During the Singapore Grand Prix two weekends ago, it was widely rumored within the F1 paddock that Di Resta has signed a one-year agreement with Force India for a race seat in 2011. That information was not confirmed by any of the team officials, but operating officer Otmar Szafnauer admitted in an interview with British magazine Autosport that “there is a seat available.”

We haven't made any decisions yet on where we go,” he added, while admitting that “I think we have got the luxury of being able to assess the situation and make a decision.”

Such a decision is expected to be made in about a month, once Adrian Sutil's situation clears out. For the time being, the German driver is linked with a move to Renault, another team that is yet to announce a definitive lineup for 2011. In case it doesn't work out, the team will face a tough decision on which driver to let go.

The most logical decision would be Liuzzi, who has had much less success in the 2010 campaign than Sutil, scoring 34 points less than the German. Nevertheless, when asked by ESPNF1.com about the prospect of being let go, the Italian emphasized the fact that “I have a contract" (for 2011) and insisted that “in a few weeks more information will come out, but I'm not worried by the speculation in the press in the meantime.”
