Force India Brings Major Upgrade for VJM02 at Valencia

Trying to show the world that their great race at the Nurburgring, although point-less on the scoreboard, was not some fortunate accident, Force India will tackle this weekend's European Grand Prix with the sole thought of scoring their maiden point in Formula One. In order for that to happen, the team has brought some major changes to their VJM02 for Valencia, confirmed by the team's part-owner himself Vijay Mallya.

We have a major aerodynamic upgrade coming for Valencia, which includes a new floor, bargeboard area and front wing. We're looking forward to it as we had a very successful aero test with Tonio (Liuzzi) in the week before the summer shutdown,” announced Mallya in a press preview for the European GP.

While reckoning this won't be the final facelift for the VJM02 this season – another one is expected for the Singapore Grand Prix later this year – Mallya clearly suggested these new improvements are aimed at getting both Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil at least into Q2.

We should definitely be Q2, maybe even the top of Q2 in Valencia and beyond. I'm quite optimistic as we're also working on more upgrades for the final races of the season so fingers crossed we should be able to maintain our momentum,” added Mallya.

Sutil echoed his team owner's comments prior to the Valencia race, admitting his optimism for the final races of the 2009 season.

We have this new upgrade that we hope will cement our Q2 positions and from there we should be regular midfield contenders. I'm looking to be reliable and avoid any mistakes and let's see where we go from there. We have some more parts coming for the flyaway races as well so it should be a very strong end to the season,” added the German driver.
