The Velar nameplate is relatively new to the Range Rover lineup, having been launched in 2017. During its short life though, the luxury crossover managed to impress, even to such an extent as to be named World Car Design of the Year in 2018.
Two years into the generation, the British carmaker decided to spice things up a notch and announced a limited edition of the model, just in time for Christmas. To be called the Velar R-Dynamic Black, the special edition will be built in limited numbers of just 500 units.
The Black is based on the D180 R-Dynamic SE, the top seller of the range. On top of all the existing features, it adds some more, so that the £56,995 asking price doesn’t seem far fetched.
The extras fitted on the model include the black exterior pack, privacy glass, and a fixed panoramic roof. The car rides on 21-inch gloss black alloy wheels.
Despite wearing the black moniker in its name, the special Velar will not be available exclusively in this color. The carmaker offers the option of a grey shade as well, as the two metallic colors on the table are Santorini Black and Eiger Grey.
Inside, the Velar comes with a heated steering wheel and Ebony perforated grained leather mixed with Ebony Morzine headlining.
“The Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic Black builds on Velar’s sophisticated design package enhancing it for a customer who is looking for an element of differentiation,” said in a statement Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Rawdon Glover.
“We look forward to delivering the first limited editions in early 2020.”
The special edition SUV is already available for order in the UK, but there’s no word on whether it will be available in the U.S. as well, where the nameplate is about as popular as on the home continent.
