One of Britain’s football stars, Sue Smith, who has scored 16 goals in 90 appearances for England, has just taken delivery of an iconic MG TF sports car – which gives her the option of wind-in-the-hair open-top motoring. She will use the bright silver 1.8-liter MG TF to travel to matches, training sessions and her many coaching and public engagements.
“We want to succeed where our men have failed since 1966 and bring the World Cup home. I am thrilled that MG Motor UK recognizes that the women’s game is now just as thrilling, especially at international level, as the men’s game and are sponsoring me with this fantastic sports car. There was glorious sunshine when I picked the car up at the MG Birmingham factory and I can’t wait to drive it – with the top up or down,” said Sue, who is known for her ever-changing hair styles and colors.
The winger has been a top player for years and is one of the driving forces behind the English National Women’s team’s record on the field. Highly placed in the FIFA world rankings, England last week beat pre-tournament favorites the USA, in what could be the start of a journey that will see Sue and her team crowned World Champions.
In an amazing career, Smith made her senior debut at the age of 14, playing for Tranmere Rovers Ladies and received her first England spot when she was just 17. Last month Sue scored both goals in a 2-0 England win over South Korea.
Sue has represented England in World Cup Quarter finals, the European Championship final and been a winner in the annual invitational Cyprus Cup that England lifted in 2009.
