This past weekend, the German GP at the Hockenheim should have been a momentous celebration for Mercedes. The team and its star driver, Lewis Hamilton, have dominated the current season, and hopes were high they will make a great impression on the home turf as well.
Coincidently, Mercedes was racing at Hockenheim with several milestones in tow: the car company sponsored the race, it celebrated 125 years of motorsport involvement and, the cherry on the cake, this was the team's 200 GP start.

To celebrate these milestones, the race cars got a special livery, and the team staff got dressed in 1950s-era suits. Mercedes even reversed its decision and allowed access for the Netflix crew that is filming the second season of the Drive to Survive series.

Little did they know the Netflix team was about to capture some of the most intense behind the scenes moments of the show. Images that, it appears, the streaming giant will not be allowed to show.

According to a number of media outlets, Lewis Hamilton himself will oppose Netflix using some of the footage shot, blaming it all on the fact that he was sick.

"I won't be in the Netflix show much, because I was sick the whole time," said Hamilton according to gpfans.com. "I won't allow them to release that."

Backing him appears to be the team's boss, Toto Wolff, who said Mercedes gave "the Netflix guys more content than on any other weekend."

Netflix started its Formula 1 adventure in 2018, filming the first season and releasing the documentary in 2019 as the "first to truly immerse the audience inside the cockpits, the paddock and the lives of the key players in Formula 1."

As usual with Netflix productions, there are no audience numbers to testify to the success or failure of the show. But since a season 2 is being made, it's safe to say that the streaming service is pleased.
