Folks Unicycling Down the Mountains of Moab Make You Shiver

Some ride the fastest sportscars in the world, others free fall in a pressure suit and then parachute to Earth, yet some people are all about pushing the limits of gravity beyond imagination. These 19 adventures unicycling down the mountains of Moab, Utah definitely qualify.

The video was recently published on GoPro’s Youtube Account, which makes sense considering the daredevil who filmed the entire adventure used a HD Hero3 camera from the famous San Mateo, California-based company. It’s true, riding an unicycle down on the stretches of a mountain might not be as fun as using a dirtbike to do it, but you’ll have to agree, it’s kind of crazy.

In case you’re wondering, Moab is a city in Grand County, in eastern Utah, in the western United States. The city is a popular base for mountain bikes who ride the extensive network of trails including Slickrock Trail. More recently, the hundreds of miles of tails easily accessible also made the area popular among unicycling enthusiasts.

As to the sport itself, what you’ll watch in the video might look stunning, but we’re pretty sure you never heard about the records people around the planet did while riding the one-wheeler. According to Guinness World Records, the longest distance rode backwards on a unicycle is for a distance of 109.4 km (68 miles), established by Steve Gordon on the 24th of June 1999.

The smallest unicycle ever ridden measures 30 cm (11.81 inches) in height with a wheel diameter of 13.80 mm (0.54 inches). The record was established by Peter Rosendahl for 5 meters in Beijing, China, on the 3rd December 2011. The longest jump on a unicycle was 2.95 m (9 ft 8 in) and was achieved by David Weichenberger (Austria) on the 16th September 2006.

Still not impressed? What would you say if we were to tell you that the longest unicycle journey known was made by Lars Clausen who covered 14,686.82 km (9,125.97 miles) between 22th April and 12th November 2002. His double crossing of the USA started in Tillamook, Oregon, and finishing in Los Angeles, California, taking in 48 states in between.
