Imagine a lightweight kick scooter. So far, nothing unusual. Now, add great design and make it foldable. Still not a big deal. What if instead of a regular one, you have a smart wheel in the back that has a built-in electric motor? Each kick becomes a lot more efficient, thus offering more momentum.
Sure, we have heard of the concept of a bicycle that uses a smart wheel to get better traveling distances with less effort, but this is not a bike, it’s a kick scooter. It’s called the Smart Ped and uses the same Smart Wheel designed by FlyKly. Its easily foldable design makes it both practical and cool, while the all-in-one electric motor, battery, and electronics are all fitted in the rear wheel.

The aluminum housing, consisting of an electromotor, battery set, electronics, and forward thinking sensors, is meticulously assembled and crafted into an excellent piece of tech. Obviously, there’s an app that works all the gizmo bits, while it also takes care of the security feature.

If you’re looking for specs, then these are the most important ones: a 250W motor powered by a 29.6V Li-Ion battery, 3-hour charge time, 1.000-cycle battery life, top assisted speed of 16 mph (25 km/h) and a range of 18 to 30 miles (30 to 50 km).

Weighing in at 24 lbs (11 kg), the Smart Ped can support up to 264 lbs (120 kg) and is available at EUR700 ($771 at the current exchange rate) for early pledgers, while the estimated retail price is EUR750 ($826 at the current exchange rate).

As we said, Smart Ped is produced in Milan and follows up on the already tested Smar Wheel concept. Its makers claim there already are hundreds of Smart Wheels riding city streets all around the world, which should grant the quality of the kick-assist e-bike in question.
