For a little over a decade now, we had to come to terms with such a thing as the SUV coupe. The body style, whose introduction is largely credited to BMW and its X6, is so widespread nowadays that it’s nearly impossible not to come across one on a daily basis.
This way of designing a car is likely to get even more traction in the years to come, given the fact that people seem to enjoy it, and we’ll probably see more and more carmakers joining in on the fun. One of them is Kia, who is showing the Futuron concept at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) event, which kicks off this week in Shanghai .
The car has been drawn as an electric SUV coupe “which proposes new designs for future electric vehicles” and named so to supposedly stand for the combination between the words future and on.
What we see is a very sharp bodywork, with pointy angles and long lines that combine to give the concept a very aggressive look, even alien-like. At the front, there’s a new interpretation of the carmaker’s tiger-face, complete with the Star Cloud light architecture, which is also available at the rear.
The Futuron is by no means a small car, as it measures 4,850 mm in length. It is not very tall though, considering it is an SUV, as it stands 1,550 mm high.
No specific details about what powers the concept have been provided, apart from the fact there is a high-capacity battery mounted low in the vehicle’s body and motors fitted on both axles for eAWD power.
The car is supposed to be Level 4 autonomous, allowing for hands-off driving most of the time. Inside, the driver and passengers are treated with artificial intelligence technologies that should make any trip as hassle-free as possible.
