A few days ago, Flyin’ Miata finished the prototype of the ND V8 conversion for the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. Now, though, we have the pricing for the turnkey conversion: $49,995.
The $49,995 price doesn’t include the donor car, but the mad scientists over at Flyin’ Miata will be much obliged to source a 2016 or 2017 model year “with your choice of specifications.” Let’s crunch some numbers, shall we? $49,995 plus $24,915 plus $835 for destination equals $75,745. I’m told by a good friend of mine that that’s what he’d call a helluva lot of money.
Look on the bright side, though. What you get with the Flyin’ Miata ND V8 isn’t a honking big engine in a small car. In my mind, you get something that has a bigger wow factor than a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, for example. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the Hellcat and want to make babies with it.
Flyin’ Miata announces that it is now taking orders for the LS3-powered ND V8, with first deliveries slated for “early in the new year.” Oh, and another thing. The $49,995 price doesn’t buy you the all-out 525 horsepower and 489 lb-ft (663 Nm) engine, but a 430 horsepower LS3 from a 2015 Camaro SS.
For the LS376/525, customers will have to pony up an additional $1,780 for a hotter camshaft. Oh, and another thing. According to the Palisade-based shop, "we should be able to convert the Fiat [124 Spider] as well."
In other words, $77,525 is the name of the game here. Regarding standard features, the following is what you’re getting in return for your $49,995:
• 430 hp 6.2L LS3 V8 with a two-year warranty (2015 Camaro SS engine)
