One Florida man is going down in history as a serious contender to the title of worst carjacker / criminal ever, after he tried to break into cars in the jail parking lot, minutes after he was released from it.
Dennis Libonati, 68, had been behind bars since March this year, when he was arrested for battery, The Smoking Gun reports. He was found guilty and sentenced to 265 days of probation and a mandatory anger management class, which, all things considered, isn’t the strictest sentence out there.

By all means, he could’ve gone home and continued living his life, but the problem was that he had no means of getting there. Driving wasn’t an option because he didn’t have a car, and we assume calling a friend to bum a ride wasn’t either. So Libonati did the stupidest thing ever: he tried to steal a car right off the parking lot.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by the publication, he tried breaking into 26 different cars, including police vehicles: a truck used by the sheriff’s office and a Kawasaki Mule ATV used by deputies. His every move was documented by surveillance cameras and, yes, will be used against him in the upcoming trial.

“When cops confronted Libonati in the parking lot, he reportedly confessed to attempting entry into the vehicles ‘with the intent to steal one to use for transportation.’ He also admitted trying to ‘hot wire’ the ATV,” the report notes.

He didn’t get credit for honesty with the cops: as per the same report, “[he] was charged with 27 auto burglary counts and a single grand larceny rap [and] he is also facing a probation violation count.”

So much for going back to his regular life. Libonati is back in prison, which is hilariously referred to in the complaint as the “LOL detention facility,” with LOL standing in for Land O’ Lakes.
