Flash Floods in Spain Turn the Streets in True Rapid Rivers, Cars Stand No Chance

In case you missed it, Spain is facing a case of flash-floods these days caused by a rare Mediterranean storm affecting other countries as well, but to a smaller degree.
Some regions have it worse than others, of course, but it's hard to imagine anything more extreme than these trucks, vans and regular passenger cars being taken for a ride against their will. The video was shot in the town of Adra, in Almería, on Spain's southeastern coast.

Spain authorities report that two bridges have collapsed and countless houses have been compromised. The weather agency said that some areas received as much as 80 liters of rain (roughly 21 gallons) per square meter (about 11 squre feet) in just 40 minutes.

Hilly towns and floods don't go together very well, with the streets lined with apartment blocks becoming artificial canyons through which the water makes its way towards the lower lands. Later in the clip you can see the water is knee-deep, and that seems to be filmed after the first and most powerful part of the floods.

The cars stand absolutely no chance as they're lifted and carried downstream like matchsticks. We could joke and say the manufactureres have included autonomous floating technology, but the truth is there's nothing to joke about.

These are the kind of situations when you're happy to be indoors, on the first floor or higher, and just hope it will end soon. Watching your car drift away bumping into buildings and other cars - like the woman in the video does - and not being able to do anything about it must be a truly terrible feeling.

Still, everybody making it out of this alive and in one piece should consider himself lucky. Unfortunately, reports say four people have lost their lives in Spain due to these extreme events, and the number may still rise.

You can see the extent of damage caused by the floods for yourself below.
