As many people found out the hard way, the experience with Android Auto isn’t always the one you expect it to be and bugs come and go on a daily basis.
Earlier this week, for example, I came across an issue that caused Android Auto to no longer unmute music after a phone call – according to the standard behavior, Android Auto mutes the music when you start or receive a call, and the app then automatically resumes the playback when you’re done.
But for some reason, Android Auto forgets to unmute the music, despite everything else running correctly on the car’s screen.
After a quick Google search, I discovered this is actually a known problem in Android Auto, and several others have reported the same thing many months ago. Google already confirmed it was investigating, but no fix has been released in the meantime.
The way that I managed to fix the whole thing doesn’t take more than a couple of seconds. Because all it takes is just switching to a different audio app and then returning to the one that you were using to listen to music, with the playback automatically resuming after doing this.
So basically, if you’re listening to music on Spotify and Android Auto forgets to resume the playback when you end the call, just switch to a different audio app, like Google Podcasts, and then go back to Spotify. When you bring back Spotify on the car’s screen, the audio playback returns to normal.
Of course, this isn’t necessarily the most convenient workaround because it requires manual input, which isn’t always the best thing to do when driving, but at least it fixes the whole thing until you make or receive another call.
As for when Google is supposed to come up with a fix, no specifics are available on this, so you’d better not hold your breath for it.
