The five door Mini isn’t the only new FWD addition to the BMW group’s lineup, as it is rumored that it will spawn the ‘real entry level BMW’, underpinned by the same mechanicals. The car is expected to be called the 1-Series GT and it will be previewed at the Paris Motor Show, in September, before its launch in 2014.
Despite tempting BMW purists to toss Molotov cocktails over the fence of the BMW HQ, it will most likely be an excellent car, equipped with the kind of very efficient and brisk engines we’ve come to expect from the Bavarian carmaker. Mercedes makes the A- and B-Class, also FWD cars for which they have very high hopes, so a rival to those cars from BMW does, indee, make sense.

With very efficient engines, like ½ of BMW’s 3.0-liter petrol engine giving us their new three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbocharged engine mounted onto a very competent FWD chassis (which BMW proved that they can develop, with the MINI), it will sell by the millions (probably). People nodded in disapproval when they heard that Porsche was making an SUV, back when rumors were first heard, back in 2001 – 2002. And now it has become their best selling model.
