Following the loss of 338 Karmas, which were reportedly in transit through the New Jersey port on the day when Superstorm Sandy struck, the US automaker lost the equivalent of $100 million. However, all of the cars were insured, and we though the story ended there, with the insurance company covering everything.
Their insurance policy should completely cover the damages, yet the XL Group PLC has refused to pay. Now, Fisker has sued the company, in order to recover their loss, plus an additional sum for what they consider a breach of contract.
Fisker is not the only automaker which lost a lot when Sandy struck, and the ‘casualties’ over in camp Toyota range in the thousands. So far, however, Fisker seems to be the only automaker involved in the sitaution, which has reported a problem with the insurance.
A total of over 10,000 cars were destroyed in the New Jersey port alone, while losses throughout the rest of the East coast were also extremely high.
