Fisker has received a clean bill of health for the Karma and is now open for business in the US. The extended range electric vehicle sedan has received certification from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) earlier this week.
As you’ll already know by now, the Karma is actually powered by two electric motors at the back, with the juice coming from a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that drives a generator, which in turn produces the electricity.
The recent EPA tests have found the all-electric range of the car to be only 32 miles, which isn’t exactly that impressive, but it’s not likely to influence sales in the US.
“With receipt of EPA certification in hand, we have achieved a major milestone by recording the first sales of our groundbreaking Karma sedan,” said Henrik Fisker, CEO and co-founder of Fisker Automotive. “Production of the Karma is ramping, and we have a strong dealer network in place so we can deliver many more of these truly amazing automobiles to customers during the remainder of 2011 and for many years to come.”
