Fisker Karma to Debut in North America at LA Show

Fisker Automotive announced that the first factory-built Karma plug-in hybrid electric vehicle will make its North American debut at the upcoming Los Angeles International Auto Show starting November 17.

The Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid is the first to offer drivers the possibility of driving in zero-emission, all-electric Stealth Mode or full-power Sport Mode for increased versatility.

By engaging Sport mode, drivers can conserve full battery power until it is required. This is especially useful when driving through low-emission zones, which are growing in number in cities around the world.

Fisker claims that the Karma "eliminates range anxiety" with a 300 mile (480 km) range, equal to that of a conventional full size, fully equipped luxury car. The car has an all-electric range of 50 miles (80 km), which is more than most people drive each day.

The Karma clearly states its purpose with the largest curved solar panel integrated in its roof. This provides 100 percent clean energy by capturing the power of the sun and turning it into electricity.

The Fisker Karma represents our goal of bringing an eco-friendly vehicle founded on the principals of ‘Pure Driving Passion’ to consumers around the world,” said Henrik Fisker, CEO.

As a centre for style and culture made up of people who are proud to express their personalities and their concern for the environment, Los Angeles is the perfect place for the Karma to make its North American debut.

Fisker said it will deliver about 100 units of the Karma plug-in hybrid this year through Finland-based automaker Valmet, with production expected to increase next year. Series production will begin in the first quarter of 2011, with an expected volume of at least 10,000 units.
