Fisker Karma Solar Roof Production to Start in 2011

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc announced that it will commence production of the solar roof for the Fisker Karma, in collaboration with Asola of Germany, in early 2011.

The roof will be the first to integrate solar cells in a curved solar panel and is designed specifically for use in a passenger car, maintaining very long life under demanding automotive conditions.

The solar panel charges the battery for an additional 4-5 miles of range per week, assuming the weather is favorable. That wouldn't enable drivers to take free weekend trips solely on solar energy, but eventually we'll get there.

"Quantum is proud to be supporting Fisker by providing key components to enable the high performance, luxury Karma vehicle to excel in fuel economy and performance. We are thrilled to be supplying a state-of-the-art solar roof to Fisker Automotive and continuing to support Fisker in the commercialization of the Karma," said Alan P. Niedzwiecki, the President and CEO of Quantum.

Fisker Automotive received a US $528.7 million loan from the Department of Energy in April 2010, that will be used for the development and production of two models of plug-in hybrid vehicles, including the Karma, a four door sports sedan and a line of family-oriented models being developed under Fisker's Project Nina program.

Fisker Automotive is a privately owned, premium American car company co-founded by Quantum and Fisker Coachbuild. Their vision is to lead the automotive industry into the next-generation of automobiles with high-end design know-how and eco-friendly powertrain technology.

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. is a leader in the development and production of advanced propulsion systems, energy storage solutions and alternative fuel vehicles.
