For a while, it was thought that the Fisker Karma would not have the same sort of safety issues as the Chevy Volt, which is being investigated for a potential battery fire taking place after crashes. But A123 System, which will also supply the packs for the upcoming Chevy Spark EV has found a possible misalignment in the battery pack cooling system that can cause coolant to leak, which can lead to a short circuit.
Now, a solution has been found and Fisker is going ahead with its first recall, affecting cars built from July 1, 2011, through November 3, 2011, 239 of them in total.
"If positioned incorrectly, the battery compartment cover could interfere with the hose clamps, potentially causing a coolant leak from the cooling hoses. If coolant enters the battery compartment, an electrical short could occur possibly resulting in a fire," Fisker told the NHTSA.
