Just when you thought it was safe to drive your plug-in, another issue rises to ruin your day. GM’s Chevy Volt might not be the only such electric model to be investigated by the NHTSA soon, since Bloomberg reports the Fisker Karma could also come with an unsafe battery.
A123 Systems, the manufacturer of the Karma’s packs, says there might be a “potential safety issue” with its products as well. Amusingly enough, they will be the ones supping GM with batteries for the upcoming Spark EV, which was supposed to be much safer.

The company’s CEO says the problem stems from a possible misalignment in the battery pack cooling system that can cause coolant to leak, which can lead to a short circuit, but A123 Systems has “already developed a confirmed repair for this situation”.
