Volvo Trucks unveiled their most powerful version of the popular Fm16 tractor a month ago, and already the first example in the UK has been delivered to a customer. Leicestershire-based, A R Demolition has placed an order with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia’s nearby Bardon Dealerpoint for what will be the first FH16-750 to be delivered in the UK and Ireland.
The company already operates two trucks, both of them Volvos, and they also have a fleet of Volvo excavators, together with crushers and power screens. The heavy duty FH16-750 will serve as a transport vehicle for these heavy machinery.
“We were looking at the big picture when we decided to order the FH16-750,” said one of the owners of the company. “From the calculations, we expect it to be at least as good as or better on fuel than other trucks with less horsepower.”
The new unit is based on the 16-liter in the FH16 700 - an in-line six with overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and unit injectors. Despite the extra grunt, fuel consumption remains unchanged. The 750hp engine is available in two versions, one for Euro-5 and the other for EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle), giving off even lower particle emissions and less smoke.
“For most FH16 customers, the focus is on transporting as many tonnes as possible in the shortest possible time. However, many customers also need to quickly transport high-value goods and fresh products across long distances with varying topography and deliver just-in-time,” explains the truckmaker.
