After the last months in which Toyota boiled us by not revealing any teasers and only slightly hinting that a new sportscar concept will be unveiled at this year’s North American International Auto Show, the vehicle got revealed today blowing our minds with a stunning look and promising performances.
Designed by Calty, the same California-based company that was responsible for drawing the lines of the Lexus SC 400, LF-LC concept, the fourth generation Toyota Supra, 1978 Celica and the FT-HS, the car embodies a striking modern design that references Toyota’s sportscar history, going as back as the legendary 2000GT coupe, the automaker’s first sportscar.

Performance and at the same time elegance is expressed through the coupe’s pronounced front wings and sharp lines contrasting with smooth flowing surfaces.

“On the exterior, ‘Function-Sculpting’ was our key term to imagine the FT-1 design.  We wanted it to look as if it was beautifully sculpted by the wind while providing functional cooling to optimize aerodynamic performance…it gets your heart racing just looking at it.” said Calty Design Research chief designer Alex Shen.

Another interesting feature is represented by the large glass window located on the hood that allows people to see the entire internal combustion engine. Check the FT-1’s eye-candy shapes in the first official photos bellow.
