First Think City Delivered to the State of Indiana

The production at the new Think assembly plant in Elkhart, Indiana, is on its way now, following half of month of tweaking and testing the assembly lines. Only a day after the official start of production was announced, the first US-built City EVs rolled off the lines to meet its new owners.

As a sign of gratitude to the state of Indiana for supporting the new Norwegian facility, the company decided to hand over this first batch of American City models to the State of Indiana for use in its government fleet. In all, 15 vehicles will enter the state's fleet.

“We’re proud to be the first manufacturer to deliver an all-electric car built in the U.S. with an advanced battery that suits the needs of government and commercial fleet operators,” said Think CEO Barry Engle.

“Our delivery today is part of a larger effort to help transform the U.S. light-duty vehicle fleet from one that is mostly dependent on imported oil, to one that is fueled entirely by domestically produced electric energy.”

The models manufactured in the US use locally sourced lithium-ion batteries, an extra reason for pride for the Indiana officials who received the vehicle at Fort Harrison State Park outside of Indianapolis. Even the state's Governor, Mitch Daniels, was present at the event.

As for the rest of the country, a retail network is currently being reviewed, with the cities that will be the first to receive the EV to be announced sometime next year. After all, Think plans to sell 2,500 units of the model next year, on a new segment of the market which is already beginning to get crowded.
