The wait is finally over! After launching the brand new F32 4 Series Coupe model earlier this year, it seems like BMW is already testing the 4-door Coupe version of the 4er, the Gran Coupe.
In typical BMW style, all coupe models seem to be receiving a Gran Coupe alternative in the future. Just like it happened with the 6 Series line-up, we're expecting the same in the smaller version.
The camouflage is mainly covering the rear part of the car and the doors, therefore, it seems like the bonnet and front fascia will remain the same as the one used on the 4 Series Coupe model.
At the back though, just like with the 6 Series models, the shape is going to be sleeker and much more elegant. Compared to the 3 Series GT, the Gran Coupe 4er will ride lower and offer less practicality.
However, it will be the proper competitor to go against the Audi A5 Sportback that is currently unchallenged. The most important thing about these spy shots though, is that they reveal the boot lid's size.
You might think it's no big deal but it actually raises a couple of question marks. From the looks of it, it seems really small and that could hint that the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be more of a hatchback-oriented car than a sedan, like its bigger brother.
As for the engines, the Gran Coupe 4er is expected to borrow the same engines used on the 4 Series Coupe platform, the N20 4-cylinder, 2-liter units, the N55 3-liter 6-cylinder units and 2 and 3 liter diesels, with the same power outputs, most likely.
Since testing already begun, expect the new model to arrive just after the Convertible, somewhere near the middle of next year.
