The first SUV in the history of the SEAT brand is about to be revealed soon. However, the first official images have already hit the web, along with some very solid specs.
The Leon's off-roading brother is called Ateca, not Aran as we believed initially. We don't know what the name means, and it will take some getting used to, but at least it's cool.

The look of the vehicle is not what we would have expected a year ago. Instead of a sleek coupe-like vehicle, SEAT is producing a family-friendly car with only a few hints of aggression. The overall proportions are similar to those of the 2016 Tiguan, which is not surprising at all.

Somehow, the Ateca has ended up looking less bold than its Volkswagen counterpart, probably because the headlights and mirrors seem undersized. The side is also somewhat disappointing because there's only one crease going from the front to the back, while the Leon has two for added visual impact.

As for the interior, the steering wheel, dash and speedometer are identical to those of the Leon hatchback. There's also a hint of 2016 Tiguan, as the center console is longer, making room for the drive mode selector, while the grab handles point upwards.

The color combination is a dull black with brown Nappa in the middle. This theme was pulled directly from the X-Perience line of SEAT "allroads."

The most interesting piece of information sent by a World Car Fans tipper is that the Ateca will be available with a three-cylinder engine. We're talking about the 1.0 TSI rated at 110 PS. A 1.4-liter turbo will also be offered with 150 PS and cylinder deactivation.

As for the diesels, they will include a base 1.6 TDI with 110 PS and two versions of the 2.0 TDI with 150 and 184 PS. The less powerful models will only be available with front-wheel drive. However, SEAT will also offer 4Drive AWD that uses a Haldex 5 coupling. This will also be the first model sold by the Spanish automaker with selectable off-road modes.
