Renault has announced that the first production-spec Zoe EV has entered the possession of its new owner, French Minister of Industrial Recovery, Arnaud Montebourg. He ordered the car a few months back, while attending the Paris Motor Show and is the first actual customer to take delivery.
The CEO of Renault, Carlos Tavares said: “The commitment of the government and Mr Montebourg, as confirmed today, is a decisive advantage for making France a robust cornerstone of electric vehicle development and serves to reinforce Renault’s position as a French champion on the international stage.

The official public launch of the Zoe is set to take place at the start of 2013, and it will be one of the more affordable EVs on the market. Also, with the quirky design, spacious Clio-sized cabin and Clio-derived mechanicals, it will win over many car buyers in Europe, who many not have been looking for an EV in the first place.

The car has 90 hp and 220 Nm from its electric motor, so it is perfect for town driving, in stop-start traffic. It will also come packed with features, such as Renault’s new R-Link touchscreen multimedia system, climate control and a complete list of safety kit.
