One place where old-timers can feel young again is an auction. Just ask the first production Chevrolet Corvette C4 about it, as the car we're telling you about will go under the hammer at Mecum Monterey (August 13-15).

We're sure hardcore Corvette fans are drooling already, but that can't stop us from offering some info on the car.

The model in question is the very first production C4 Corvette to be sold to the public. During its career, the car was kept by two owners since new, with the current owner having bought the car in 1987.

It also comes with goodies

This 1984 Corvette C4 has something special in the bag for whoever will pay the most to own it. The 'Vette comes with power steering, power brakes, Z51 Performance Handling Package, heavy-duty shocks, power windows and locks, a six-way power adjustable driver seat, tilt/telescoping steering wheel and stock 16-inch aluminum wheels.

Moreover, the owner will also receive service records, the original window sticker, build sheet from the National Corvette Museum and a copy of the original title.

So basically, what you're buying here is a fat slice of American automotive history. At launch, the 1984 Corvette C4 used a V8 apt for as much as 375 horsepower courtesy of the LT5 mill found in the ZR-1 version.

But here's what should really get you going. The Corvette C4 generated a 0.90 G-force on the skidpad, the highest ever recorded by Car&Driver at the time, the closest being 0.82 G created by Porsche 928 and assorted Ferraris.

A total of 44 prototypes were built, further proof that Chevy took the Corvette C4 very seriously.
