First Official Video of Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Released

Porsche has released the first official video of the new Panamera S Hybrid, a car that combines elegant travel for four passengers with a new 380 horsepower hybrid powertrain. The 46-second video shows the car cruising city streets on battery power alone and demonstrating its sporty credentials on twisty mountain roads. The Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is driven by the same engine combination that has already been proven in the Cayenne Hybrid, a model which is proving popular in the markets where it has been introduced. The bulk of the power is provided by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 333 hp (245 kW), which is supported by a 47 hp (34 kW) electric motor. Power transmission is handled by the familiar eight-speed Tiptronic S that has already seen action in the Cayenne. In order to save weight, the electric motor also works as a generator for the battery (a nickel metal hydride (NiMh) unit) and as a starter. The range in purely electric mode is approximately 1.25 miles (2 kilometers, while top speed is rated at 53 mph (85 km/h). Just like every Panamera, the hybrid has a high level of standard equipment that includes leather interior, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Bi-Xenon headlights, front and rear ParkAssist, tire pressure monitoring, automatic dimming rear view mirrors, Porsche Communication Management with touch-screen satellite navigation and audio controls and cruise control. The Porsche Panamera S Hybrid also features adaptive air suspension as standard, plus the innovative display panel  seen in the video (first seen in the Cayenne Hybrid), which provides the driver with all the relevant information about the vehicle's specific driving status. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
