We know, we know, this is beginning to turn into a pattern. An annoying one. There are currently only two vehicles in the world which can be called true competitors on the EV market, the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt, and everybody knows that already.
This isn't enough however for either of the manufacturers of the two models, who miss no opportunity to remind us of the latest achievements of their respective models. That includes the selling and delivery of the first units here, there or where ever (here, here and here).
Nissan for instance issued this weekend another long press release announcing the delivery of the first Leaf model to some couple in the Seattle region. Nissan names them too, as it did the previous recipients of the Leafs, as if the poor men and women who become neighborhood celebrities over night have won a lottery of some sort.
So, as a type of protest against such a practice, we will NOT tell you the names of the first Nissan Leaf buyers in Seattle. We will tell you however that the EV has started its adventure in the world as it was supposed to, meaning that Nissan is already preparing a second shipment of Leafs for the US in the following days.
Things seem to be pretty much on track for the global launch of the Leaf by 2012, Nissan says. We only hope we won't receive press statements every time a unit is sold. Otherwise, it's gonna be some long, long couple of years.
