First McDonald's with an EV Charging Station

It was only a matter of time, we reckon, until operators of big chains of restaurants and fast food joints embraced the new electric vehicle technology. And what better way for this type of businesses to get a taste of the electric automotive world than by installing charging stations?

A new McDonald's restaurant in Huntington will be, according to wsaz.com, the first franchise in the United States to have Level 2 Electric Car Charging Stations. According to... us, it might very well be the first McDonald's in the world to have an electric vehicle charging station (but we bet it will not be the only one).

"I wanted to offer this capability to show our customers that this new technology is here when they are ready to take advantage of it," Tom Wolf, local owner of the franchise was quoted as saying by the source.

"I think it’s very fitting that the first location in West Virginia is making McDonald's history again, being the first in the US to offer the Level 2 charging stations."

For those who don't yet know, Level 2 charging stations are 240 volt standard electrical outlets. This type of charger will probably be the most successful of them all, as it provides the perfect balance between price and capability. Using such a charger, the “full” indicator of the battery can be reached in between 2 and 6 hours.

The station in Huntington will be demonstrated to the world with the help of a plug-in hybrid owned by American Electric Power.
