Importing a muscle car across the big pond is no easy task. German company Geiger Cars will sell you a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat for €86,000 ($94,405 at today’s exchange rates). Today’s story, on the other hand, is centered around the first unit of the brutish breed that set foot on British soil.
Graemel is a Hellcat.org forum member that acquired the supercharged HEMI V8-powered Challenger from the United States. Graemel’s buddy and mechanic Brian, joined by Brian’s US mate Gary, helped our muscle car aficionado with the acquisition and shipping. Without further beating around the bush, let’s see how much money this thing cost Graemel.

Although he doesn’t mention a thing about import taxes and other expenses, we can make a rough estimate on it. Other than the $59,995 starting MSRP, we took into account the duty, VAT, and other UK-specific taxes, as well as a $5,000 shipping expense. The total cost? Almost £56,000 (approximately $86,056) and this is without taking into account whether Graemel paid his friends something for the elbow grease.

So £56,000 is as low as you can go if you desire an all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in the UK. To put that figure into perspective, the basic Porsche 911 Carrera starts from £73,510. Of course, the Stuttgart interloper is a revered sports car, but who could resist the temptation of a 707 horsepower Challenger Hellcat for a huge lot fewer pounds sterling than the Porker?

The British owner of the first Hellcat imported in the UK tells that the car is on trade plates now. In about a fortnight or so, Graemel believes he’ll be done with registering his brand spanking new pride and joy. And the best bit about this US-to-UK import story? Hit the press release button below and enjoy the read.

Spoiler alert: the story starts with a funeral and a night drive to Southampton.
