In the summer of 2019, Honda’s luxury division Acura announced the NSX would get a special color called Spa Yellow for the 2020 model year. The decision was made because this color was the most popular for the 1997 – 2003 variant of the model.
Yet no matter how exciting the revived color must be for NSX fans, there’s no denying the sports car looks great (better, even?) in black. Especially if we’re talking about an NSX from the first generation.

Back in 1990, as the auto industry was re-evaluating its priorities, Honda decided to have another go at the sports car segment with the introduction of the NSX. The result of a development process that had started 6 years earlier, the NSX arrived in the world as a Honda, but had an Acura badge in the U.S.

The Japanese had high hopes for the car at the time of its launch, even in a period when the world was not that crazy about  – or capable of buying – sports cars. Those hopes were not exactly met over the following years, as one and a half decades after production started, under 20,000 of them had been sold.

The nameplate is still in production, and a first-gen NSX is a piece of history that cannot be ignored. So when one pops up in near perfect condition all these years after it first rolled on the road, that's reason enough to rejoyce.

The all-black (inside and out) NSX in the gallery above is for sale, after spending 24 years in the hands of the same owner, 8 of which locked up in a garage. It’s not exactly the same one that was made decades ago, but the changes it went through only seem to have made it better.

Over the years, the car was gifted with several visual enhancements, including a carbon rear diffuser and side scoops on the outside, and Sparco seats in black on the inside; the interior color was originally ivory, but it seems the new color suits the vehicle just fine.

The engine - a stock 3.0-liter V6 – has been improved as well. The pistons were replaced, and there are new rings, camshaft seals, and an extensive list of other new parts the unit needs to run properly.

With 133,000 miles (214,000 km) on the odometer, the first-gen Acura NSX is selling on an auction website. With two days left in the process, the bid is now up to $40,000.
