First Dedicated BMW i Showroom in Japan Opened Its Doors Today

Japanese customers seem to prefer their cars custom. That’s probably why BMW launches model after model in the land of the rising sun in all sorts of configurations, calling them ‘special editions.' We all know it’s just marketing but, hey, as long as it’s working, who cares, right?

While this love for particular versions might be a bit surprising, what we’re about to tell you might be an expected outcome, though, especially considering the news that came in from Japan a while back, when a horrible tsunami hit a nuclear plant.

Remember that? Well, they proved once again back then that they have a different kind of culture compared to what we’re used to in the Western World. I still remember that one day I read news that said older people offered to travel to the radiated areas and perform various tasks, to protect the younger generation.

Somebody had to go and try to seal the reactors and do all kinds of other stuff and the population felt like, since there was no need for superior strength or reflexes, old people could handle it. This is how the Japanese think and I for one have the utmost respect for them.

Coincidentally or not, they are also one of the most eco-friendly countries in the world with more charging stations at the moment than gas stations. That says a lot!

That’s probably why BMW is investing heavily in the promotion of its eco-friendly products and they just opened their first i showroom in Tokyo where people can actually see all the i3 and i8 models have to offer.

Unfortunately for the Germans, in the last few years the hybrid and electric vehicle market has been dominated by local manufacturers such as Nissan, Toyota, and Mitsubishi but that could also be its core strength.

You see, people might get bored by the same old propositions and could turn to Bavarian products for a change. That would definitely be good news for BMW, but it remains to be seen how things will develop.

The BMW i Megacity studio has an open glass display and is packed with materials used in the i3 and i8. You can see carbon fiber panels here and there as well as solar panels on the roof that allow the building to be power, independent.

Customers can also take their pick from a broad range of BMW i Accessories in the shop that opened its doors today.
