First BMW X4 M40i Videos Highlight the Exhaust Sound and Sporty Design

The BMW X4 made its debut late last year and has been completely overshadowed by the M4 GTS and the M2. We know this Sports Activity Coupe is way better than you think based on our time spent with it, and the M40i can only improve on a sweet handling 4x4. The first videos are always exciting, and we've compiled an amateur clip plus official footage from the Bavarians.

The Porsche Macan is sold out for about half a year and costs a ton of money. BMW's latest coupe-styled crossover contender, the X4, is a new entry to the sports SUV market that costs less. The M Performance treatment usually makes everything better, but the changes are harder to spot on the M40i unless you are a fan.

The engine is still a 3-liter turbo, just like in the xDrive35i. The 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive have also been kept, with slight alterations, of course. But power has gone up considerably from around 300 ponies to 360 HP and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque.

The price also goes up from $49,700 to $57,800. But we think it's worth it, considering the M Sport body kit, larger alloys, and a twin exhaust system are all standard features. What's more, a standard Porsche Macan S is $67,200 while slower to 100 km/h.

Deliveries will kick off in April 2016. Ahead of the market launch, BMW USA shared some video footage that shows a white M40i with optional 20-inch wheels. It may even be the same car we saw in Detroit a month ago (photos included in the gallery below).

I know most people believe the X4 is based on the X3 because the front end is the same. But the folks who've driven it can tell you that the difference is quantifiable. The driving position is lower, and the effervescence is there when you go near the throttle or turn the wheel. No, it's not a Ford Focus RS, but it will certainly keep up with one in a straight line. If you can afford the M40i, don't pay any attention to the ones who hate the chopped roof and just go for a drive in one.
