First BMW i8 Review Done by Customers

The BMW i8 is set to arrive in a dealership near you this summer. The car already entered production and a few models have been sent out into the world to show possible customers what they’ll be missing out on if they decide not to get one.

The guys from What Car had the privilege of having one inside their studio and introduce it to some possible buyers and ask them what they think of it. Needless to say that, as with any other car, there were both pros and cons, some of them pretty hard to guess.

While everyone loved the design and the care to details that was put into this model, not all of the guests liked the butterfly doors. That was a bit of a shocker but the argument was pretty solid though: they might come off as too flamboyant every once in a while.

Of course, since this is a BMW that has a fresh interior design after ages, most people liked it but one of them pointed out that there’s no room for a dog, an issue that we’re pretty sure never came up in any of the designer’s heads. However, it’s a thing they should’ve considered.

One particular 911 driver loved the fact that the car has a 2+2 configuration, even though the people sitting in the back would have to be very small. Compared to other cars that simply leave that part out, it’s a great improvement.

Overall, the car was received with great enthusiasm and a couple of people claimed they are even interested in buying it, while one person already ordered an i8 after purchasing an i3 also.

For GBP99,000, the i8 does look like a sweet deal. It has a hybrid powertrain making 362 HP (231 coming from a 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and 131 from an electric motor) and 570 Nm (320 from the internal combustion unit and 250 from the electric one) that allows it to have supercar-like performance with none of the hustle or the maintenance costs.

It will do 112 mpg (2.1 l/100 km) and emit less than 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer which is something none of its competitors can say, including the Audi R8 and Porsche 911. Therefore, living with an i8 would be extremely easy.... After you pay for it, of course.
