Arguably the most anticipated sports car of 2022, the Corvette Z06 will enter production this upcoming summer for the 2023 model year. And just like the Stingray before it, Barrett-Jackson will auction the first retail car.
100 percent of the hammer price will go to a nonprofit organization with the sole mission of building strong, stable, and secure military families. Founded in 2002 following the events of 9/11, Operation Homefront serves the post-9/11 wounded, military families, and veterans across all 50 states.

To be auctioned on January 29th, the Corvette Z06 comes with a fine print according to Barrett-Jackson. More specifically, the VIN isn’t listed because “the vehicle and be subject to a state-issued VIN and/or other state requirements.” Be that as it may, there’s no denying the first-ever unit will rake in a lot of greenbacks due to the Zee-Oh-Six’s high desirability.

First and foremost, Chris Morgan of Criswell Chevrolet understands that prospective customers will have to wait anything between three and four years to receive the corner-carving sports car. And secondly, VIN 001 is likely to be scooped up by Rick Hendrick, the gentleman who purchased the first-ever Stingray at auction two years ago for a tremendous $3 million.

It's also worth remembering that Chevrolet will prioritize the Stingray over the Z06 in terms of production figures, which is going to make things worse for prospective customers. Many dealerships continue to mark up the Stingray like there’s no tomorrow, and this practice will only get worse due to the specialness of the flat-plane crankshaft V8-powered Corvette Z06.

Capable of hitting 8,600 revolutions per minute, the performance-oriented variant makes 670 horsepower from 5.5 liters of displacement. Chevrolet dubs the DOHC engine LT6, and every single one is assembled by hand by a master engine builder at the GM Performance Build Center in Kentucky.

Offered in three grades and two body styles, the Corvette Z06 comes into its own if you specify the Z07 Performance Package that provides 734 pounds (333 kilograms) of downforce at 186 miles per hour (300 kilometers per hour). Pricing still is a mystery at the moment of writing, yet unconfirmed reports currently suggest $86,995 for the base specification.
