Earlier this week, we talked about the 2017 Ford GT owners receiving their build dates from the Blue Oval. Well, those fortunate enough to be among the first to join the supercar's owners club are now getting their cars, with the first examples of the twin-turbo machine having rolled off the production line today.
The ground-to-ground missiles are being brought to the world at Markham factory in Ontario, with Ford's Multimatic motorsport partner handling the production of the road car, of which only 250 units will be built each year.
“When we kicked off 2016, we had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar – to excel at Le Mans, and to start deliveries before year-end,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, global product development, and chief technical officer. “We’ve achieved both.”
Since the first objective had been reached, with this year's Circuit de la Sarthe 24-hour battle seeing a pair of GT racecars grabbing first and third places in the GTE Pro category, the company is now enjoying hitting its second target.
Initially, Ford only talked about a two-year production run for the velocity tool, but after receiving more than 6,500 applications for its extremely demanding buyer selection program, the carmaker announced it would add two years of production.
As you can imagine, the Instagram reactions to the supercar's factory debut haven't failed to show up, with the hottest one so far, at least in our book, coming from (drum rolls) Ken Block - you can check out the drift aficionado's post below, while those of you who missed the Ken Block-related Snowkhana 5 parody, which landed earlier today, can check it out here.
P.S.: Is that the drift man sitting behind the wheel of the 2017 GT in his Instagram photo? Given the resolution of the pic, this is anybody's guess.
