Spoiler alert - this is one of those situations where we’re not really sure whether the protagonist of our story is lucky or unlucky. We’re talking about the owner of the first crashed 2016 Mazda Miata.
The man, who goes by the nickname of SCSM on the Miata Forum (via Jalopnik), took delivery of a Miata Launch Edition on Monday. The man was enjoying his first drive together with his wife, but they only managed to get one mile away from a dealership - this is located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Apparently, the Soul Red hue of the car wasn’t visible enough for a Ford F-150 driver, who rear-ended the little roadster, reportedly without even braking. This sent the Miata straight into the car in front of it, which means the vehicle was seriously damaged.

Then, at around 4:00 PM or so, BAM. BAM, and our beautiful new LE was no more. We were shaken, Joanne took a ride with the EMT’s to the hospital and I was left dazed, amazed, stressed, and what ever emotion one could experience. I also quickly realized that we were both still alive and functioning, thank you up there!!!” the man explained on the Miata Forum.

On the (surprisingly) bright side

Fortunately, both he and his wife escaped the accident(s) without any injuries. And while initially it seemed like the Miata guy was in for a sad story, it only took two days or so for somebody at Mazda to demonstrate the company's marketing and PR department appreciates “faith in humanity restored” memes.

To be more precise, the carmaker stepped in and decided to gift the man with a brand spanking new 2016 Miata. Just to be clear here - Mazda had no obligation to do so, since the car had been delivered at the time of the crash.

Mazda is also taking the crashed Miata into custody and we don’t even care what it’s going to do with it. For one thing, this part of the story might have something to do with the fact that sending this guy a new car has just withdrawn one of the only 1,000 units of the Launch Edition.
