It's a sad day for all fans of the Audi R8 since we have to report on what could be the first example of the all-new super sportscar being involved in a major crash. It happened a few days ago in the UK, and the initial details suggest a customer flipped the car during a test drive.
Instagram user lovebeard said the following on Friday, December 11: "So a guy came to my son's place today and wanted to test drive this R8. Took it out clipped a curb and baaammmmm flipped the beast!!!"
We've managed to track down the car to Watford Audi, a dealership that got the yellow beast back in November. The photos below present the £150,000 car while it was still in mint condition.
We've also managed to find some images from Audi M25, so the vehicle may have been jointly owned by two dealerships..
We're not sure whether to call the yellow R8 a write-off, but it definitely sustained expensive damage. The front body and chassis have been torn to pieces; the roof is caved in, and there is also cosmetic damage on the rear end from when the carbon wing was torn.
Fixing all these problems will require specialists who know how to add a new front subframe and do the geometry for the roof. Of course, if they decide to do that, the interior and most of the body panels will have to be stripped off.
We wonder what kind of contract the guy who went on that test drive signed and if he can afford to pay for the car without selling his kidneys.
Seeing the R8 V10 Plus destroyed like some boy racer trash saddens us. But maybe this will teach all the other Audi R8 buyers that quattro doesn't give them a free pass for shenanigans.
But, most likely, we will see one of these crashes every other week, just like it happened when the McLaren 650S or the Ferrari 458 Italia were brand new.
