The first official 2013 SRT Viper crash took place on public roads, unfortunately killing its driver, Chrysler engineer Martin Morse, in Hartland Michigan, just half hour or so North of Detroit.
According to the Michigan State Police, Mr. Morse was flexing the Viper’s muscles too hard on that day, which happened to feature near-freezing temperatures and light rain. Witnesses saw the red Viper launching hard and speeding over 70 mph on the US 23 highway.
Mr. Morse pushed the car’s limit until he lost control, sliding across traffic lanes and down into the grassy median center that divides the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway. There, the sportscar managed to get through the middle and upper most cable of the separator fence but jammed against the lower one.
The thick braided steel cord cut through the cabin of the Viper. Fact that probably played a major role in Mr. Morse’s death. No mechanical faults have been reported to be conducted the loss of control, further emphasizing that it was Chrysler’s engineer fault for pushing the car too much in such weather conditions.
