At the Northeast Auction in Uncasville, the peeps at Barrett-Jackson managed to sell the last-ever Corvette from the seventh generation for a staggering amount of green dollar bills. The bidding escalated quickly to $2.7 million, and all proceeds are going to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Smart Home program.
The car in the photo gallery is nothing more than “an exact replica” of the real deal, which hasn’t been manufactured yet. Speaking of which, the plant in Bowling Green prepares to switch to mid-engine Corvette by the end of the year with the introduction of the eighth generation.

Premiering on July 18th, the C8 will switch to the LT2 small-block V8 and a dual-clutch transmission. The manual, therefore, might never come back to the Corvette. A twin-turbo V8 is expected to replace the supercharged V8 engine in the Corvette Z06, and if everything goes according to plan, hybrid assistance will be added at some point in the coming years.

Turning our attention back to the final C7 Corvette, the all-American sports car is a 3LZ painted in black over red-and-black upholstery. Leather, Alcantara, and carbon-fiber upgrades are also featured, along with the LT4 engine with tons of suck-squeeze-bang-blow. More to the point, 650 horsepower (659 PS) and 650 pound-feet (881 Nm) at the crankshaft.

The C7 is even more powerful thanks to the LT5, which is exclusive to the Corvette ZR1. As opposed to the LT4 in the Corvette Z06, the range-topping engine is capable of 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet, translating to 212 miles per hour on full song. On the downside for General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles can crank out more from a similar displacement in the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and the now-defunct Demon special edition.

On an ending note, the purpose of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to build mortgage-free smart homes for catastrophically injured service members. Another highlight of the Smart Home program is that each home is designed to address the unique needs of each individual.
