With all the changes in MotoGP regulations, it was only natural that Dorna, the rights holder of the World Superbike Championship and the FIM went on and bring some new regulations to this series, too.
After numerous meetings between the FIM, Dorna and the MSMA the first guidelines of the changes becoming effective from 2014 have been announced.

As expected, the first set of changes affects the money teams can spend on their bikes and components. This translates in a maximum number of 8 engines per rider per season, and price caps for brakes and suspensions. At the same time, a limited number of gear ratios will become mandatory.

These measures aim at increasing the competitiveness of the World SBK series, just as the second major change: the MSMA will provide, on request, a complete motorcycle package at a fixed price to anyone interested in getting top-sped machinery.

The offer is available through the 2016 season and the bikes supplied by the MSMA are said to be the same as those used by the manufacturer, also receiving some updated and maintenance.

Finally, a new sub-category will be introduced. Called EVO class, this category will follow the Superbike technical specs in terms of chassis, brakes and suspensions, including the price caps for the latter two. The engine and electronics will however, be restricted to Superstock regulations.

A detailed official document is expected to be released on August 26.
