Figo Era Begins in India

And this is how Ford does it... The first carmaker in history to produce a car for the masses still has what it takes, some 100+ years since the inception of the Model T. After revealing the Figo some one month ago, an avalanche of orders swampped Ford's dealerships, with the orders' count reaching the 10,000 mark.

"We are delighted at the initial response to Figo, and are incredibly proud to have struck such a positive chord with Indian consumers," Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India said in a release.

"The launch of Figo is the start of a transformed Ford in India, and a true reflection of our commitment to delivering world-class products that allow Indian customers to feel the difference.''

Helped by the Figo, which drew more customers to Ford dealerships, the American carmaker managed to outdo itself and posted more than triple the sales figures registered in March 2009.

The Figo will be offered in four different models, namely LXI, EXI, ZXI and Titanium, each available with different trim levels. All models also will be available with a Duratorq diesel engine option. Pricing for the entry level models starts at Rs. 3,49,900 (approx. $7,695).

“As we remain committed to redefining the Ford brand in India, we expect this momentum to continue,” said Boneham. “Factors such as the initial price of the car, fuel efficiency and cost of maintenance are critical in determining affordability for a new car buyer. Indian customers are confirming that Figo solidly delivers on all of these.”
