When we first heard of a... tie-up between Fifty Shades of Grey and Audi our mind wandered into all those shades of Grey you can get for your Ingolstadt machine. As it turns out, things go beyond that, as the upcoming motion picture version of E L James' books is going all Audi, as shown by the recently-released full trailer.
Truth be told, Audi vehicles were already present in the Fifty Shades of Grey book and its two sequels - Audi of America Director of Marketing, Loren Angelo explains that "It was a natural fit for Audi to be a part of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ as it’s brought to life in theaters."

The movie, which is set to land just in time to spice things up for... vanilla couples for Valentine's Day, fully digs into the four-ringed carmaker's range, including the R8 V10 Spyder, the S8, S7, Q7 TDI, as well as the A3.

Since this is a motion picture of the superficial kind, we'll treat the collaboration in such a manner and say that this does appear to fit in with Audis rather well - after all businessman Christian Grey portrays the bad boy type, while Audi's LED lights give a similar impression, especially when seen at night.

Grey obviously wishes to keep his dark intimate preference below the radar, so perhaps a Lamborghini Huracan would've been too much, with the R8 providing a more understated supercar approach.

The problem with Fifty Shades of Grey

Audi's press release states that "With the sequels, “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed,” the books have become a global phenomenon since their release and sold more than 100 million copies worldwide in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever."

While one can't deny the aforementioned figures, we're not buying this story. We're not saying this because the movie is loaded with cheesy lines and scenes, since the movie industry has already accustomed us with that.

There's a greater issue here though - Fifty Shades of Grey somehow tries to introduce the S&M lifestyle to the vanilla world. Perhaps it's better for such dark practices to remain reserved for those who really want to adopt them. The Internet provides a very easy way to learn about this sort of lifestyle and if anybody is interested, a few hours of research can provide sufficient information.

The idea here is that while the time required to read the books or the hours needed for the online research acted like a well-placed filter, the movie just takes this specialized way of life and throws it to the general public.

Let's just hope no teenager asks for an Audi S&M line after watching this.
