Motorcycles fare quite well for automotive giant BMW, as BMW Motorrad shows the sales figures for 2015. The Bavarian maker adds one more year with record sales to its history books, and things don't seem like they will stop here.
BMW Motorrad was the only division that recorded sales growth in December 2015, while the rest of the subsidiaries showed a slight decrease. All in all, Motorrad sold 7,497 motorcycles and maxi scooters in the last month of the previous year.
This accounts for a 6.6% increase over the same period of 2014. At the opposite end sits the Rolls-Royce brand, which recorded the biggest sales reduction in December 2015, 1.8 percents.
When it comes to positive figures for the entire 2015 year including December, motorcycles were only surpassed by Mini cars. No less than 12% more Mini cars were sold through the end of 2015, compared to "only" 10.9% more motorbikes and maxi scooters.
BMW Motorrad sold 136,963 units to final customers in 2015. The data BMW showed at the time of writing does not specify which model sold best, though we suspect that the hierarchy did not change from the previous year. This means that the R1200GS is most likely the BMW bestseller. As for the rest of the charts, we still have to wait a bit.
Affordable, with lower maintenance and ownership costs, the BMW G310R may ace sales figures next year, especially as it will also be sold in developing markets, the real goldmine when it comes to strong unit sales. Margins are perhaps smaller than in the case of premium machines, but it's always the number of such bikes that makes them so profitable.

The G310R is expected to cause sales to explode
